I want my children to have a heart for others.

I want them to want to help others.

I want them to have a servants heart.

Once on Christmas Eve it was snowing like crazy and we saw, what appeared to be a homeless man, on a bike. In the snow. With everything he owned. The husband bought him a hot meal and took it to him...our small children still talk about it. We are by no means rich, but we can spare a hot meal. However we are not always in the position to stop the way we did that night, but we like to have something small on hand.

In our house we make care packages. This takes about 5 minutes of our time and cost maybe $3-$5 a bag to make. Each time we make these we add different items. Sometimes we add more food, if its winter we add gloves or hats. My children love to make these and more importantly they love to hand them out. We keep them in our car and when ever we a person on the side on the road asking for money, looking for work, wanting help...we hand them one of these. It's not even that much for our point of view...but its a little something...a little something that might show a person love...that might show them the heart of Christ.

Would you ever try this idea?

"Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!" Hebrews 13:2

I LOVE this idea. Especially for having it ready to go. Smart. Smart. :)
