The time Jude became a vegetarian...

Jude is a  strict three meals a day eater. He eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He rarely asks for snacks in between meals. There are also only a handful of foods I have to battle to get him to eat.

However one day last week, he was a man torn during dinner. He did not want to eat his chicken. He looked like we was going to cry if I forced him, so I gave him a free pass and excused him from eating. The following the day, it was the same thing with pork chops. Then the same with cheeseburgers. I got to thinking, and suddenly it dawned on me what his issue was. Four days prior he was watching a jibjab thanksgiving card, in which a turkey met his untimely Thanksgiving fate. While watching the video he causally asked me why the pilgrims didn't just buy their turkey from Price Chopper, like us.?! That was the day he truly realized we eat animals. I mean, I think he knew...but now he really knew what that entailed. I poked around with the question of why he didn't want to eat his dinner? I received crickets and blank stares as a response. I let it go. Later that night I heard in a tiny quiet voice, "mom?" // "yes, buddy?" // " I don't want to eat animals. Mom, I really like animals." // It was so sad, and so sweet, and full of so much innocence. We chatted, discussed the circle of life, weighed our eating options, and Jude decided that he did not want to eat animals.

There you have it, that is the story about that time Jude became a vegetarian. I say "that time" because approximately 5 days later we ordered Chinese food. Chicken and broccoli is his all time favorite meal...so he very quickly abounded his new found beliefs in favor of a take out treat.

Love the turkey art! Yeah, my son was upset about our thanksgiving turkey yesterday because he thought we shot it from the field out back.
