I was reading the book of Philippians the other night and I came across this definition of hope:
Hope is not just wishful thinking but confident expectation
wow. Many times I, myself, have thought of hope as this happy, fluffy, carefree word...which in some cases it is, but when we have hope in the LORD we can do with strong confidence and not just wishful thinking. This is the kind of hope I want.

Word. I have a hard time with that one. I used to be so optimistic...that everything would go right. 5 years in the real world you realize so much goes wrong...my pessimism gets in the way of staying hopefully that God will provide in difficult circumstances whatever I need to overcome it.
