Today's post is sponsored by Pull-Ups. Pull-Ups is currently offering a Big Kid Academy...I am enrolled...and if you are potty training I suggest you should too.
Potty training. Potty training might be the end of me. I
am currently on my third round of potty training. You would think I
would be a pro by now...wrong. Even though I am failing miserably with my two year old I can still shed some light on the potty situation...
Here are my top 5 potty training tips.
1.) Each child is unique and there is no special formula...that was super helpful...huh? Seriously though...what worked for one kid might not work for the other. Finding out what is going to work for that individual is key.
2.) There is no magic age. I have learned that if they aren't ready, they aren't ready...end of story. Sometimes holding off just a little while longer that what you wanted can make all the difference. It was my goal NOT to have two kids in diapers...but atlas little miss wasn't interested in what I had planned.
3.) Bribe. No joke. Stickers, chocolate, toys, trips to Disney...
I am not ashamed to admit that my oldest daughter was potty trained with a one simple sentence... "If you use the potty we can call Prince Eric (aka Ariels man ) on the phone." For some reason my red head was obsessed with Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. I just had to offer a short bribe and that was it, she never used a diaper again.
4.) Get them interested in the bathroom. Even if they aren't actually going, make it fun. I have thrown a potty party. We read books about the potty. We watch videos...I recommend Bear in Big Blue House. We get fun big kid stuff like Pull-Ups with fun characters...while my youngest will pee in her Pull-Up all day long...she is OBSESSED with her "Stuffins" and does not like to wear diapers...so that is a start.
5.) Be consistent. I know that part of the reason my current potty trainer hasn't fully gotten it...is because I haven't been putting in any effort on my end. I haven't really had her sit on the potty and allowed her to spend the time she needs to go. It is full laziness on my end...or the fact that I sleep deprived with a newborn.
So tell me what are your potty training tips?
We're not there yet but I know it's going to be quite the task. I'm also not above bribery, whatever works.
This is all very good-to-know. I feel like I should pin this! haha. I will definitely need help I am sure!
