the hubs was in his cousin's wedding this weekend. it was a lovely wedding. one of the best i have been to in a while. what did this mean for us? ROADTRIP! it also meant i was hub-less for about a day or so while he fulfilled all his groomsmen duties. we were lucky enough to chill out at his aunt's house poolside.
i dont know about you ... but my kids are great sleepers. like 10 hours a night sleepers. unless we travel. then they suddenly forget how to sleep, and the fact that they need sleep. so after waking at 5 am and being to tired to "parent" ... we took the bambinos to the pool. i drowned my tiredness away in a box of cheez-its and a book.
truth be told when i discovered pinterest the number of books i read a month significantly decreased. i made it a summer goal to read more books. i just finished bittersweet and the great gatsby.
next on my list was splitting harriet ... have you heard of it? it is your classic prodigal son story ... or daughter in this case. Harri is a preachers kids gone rebel, she turns her life around, and returns home. it is a story of grace and gods love ... mixed with a little church drama, love story, and a page or two of reading about jelly beans.
overall this book was a fast easy read. it didn't require a dictionary or deep thought .. which is prefect for pool side ... you know in case you have kiddos that scream... "MOM!!! watch this!" approximately every 15 seconds.
what is on your summer reading list?
Oh no! 5 am?!?!?!?!?!?! At least you had your cheez-its and a good book :)
I saw that on instagram! Ha!
I have so many books on my list. I've got 2 down + know I'm bringing along Cutting for Stone and When God was a Rabbit to Fla. Hoping to get through them on vacay.
I'm envious of your reading. It was my goal to finish a few books this summer and I'm only half way done with 1. Glad you have fun at the wedding. I love weddings.
ooh, reading poolside sounds like heaven. What did you think of the Great Gatsby? It's one of my top 5 favorites, there are just so many layers. Plus the issues he wrote about then, are the same ones we are facing today.
Cheers.
Sounds like it was a great little trip--and Splitting Harriet huh? Sounds interesting, gotta give that lead to my hubby. Love the pic!
xo
That is hilarious! Haven't heard of Splitting Harriet....checking it out.
P.S. Cheez-its are my favorite pool-side or beach snack!
Hey! I totally agree with the Pinterest/book reading ratio. But-- I LOVE the Great Gatsby! I read it in 10th Grade English & it has been one of my favorites ever since. Right now I'm reading an awesome book called Powerful & Free by Danny Silk (a book about Women & their role in the church) and next up is Love Does by Bob Goff! I really enjoyed looking through your blog!
